Domains
Domain registration and domain hosting are completely different things.
域名注册和主机是完全不同的事情
Although we offer domain registration as well as hosting, you can host a domain with us you’ve registered elsewhere and register a domain with us you’re hosting elsewhere. Our system allows you to add domains to be hosted you haven’t even registered yet.. they just won’t work until they are!
尽管我们同时提供域名注册和主机，你仍然可以在我们的主机上使用你在别处注册的域名或者在我们这里注册域名而主机在别处。我们的系统甚至允许你加一个还没有注册的域名到主机，当然它将无法工作直到你注册了它。
For a registered domain to work with us, it must have its nameservers set to ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2.dreamhost.com, ns3.dreamhost.com and have been added to our hosting system.
为了使注册的域名起作用，它必须设置域名服务器为 ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2.dreamhost.com, ns3.dreamhost.com并且加入我们的主机系统。

大概是两个月多前想自己在Dreamhost注册一个帐号，可以用来做自己的FTP服务器，甚或也可以提供下载，即便什么都不作，用来做一下某些Web程序的测试总是不错的。 选择了“Crazy Domain Insane”类型，用了Dreamhost Promo Code：webhost2mao，所以一年的服务总共才9.4美元，折合人民币也不到80元。
这一年的服务里面包括：
1。一个免费的域名申请（我申请了cligg.com，digg的另类写法，很有GEEK的味道，而且COM的顶级域名。）
2。20G的磁盘空间，每周还会增加160M
3。1TB的总流量，每周还会增加8G
4。600个邮箱，75个Shell/FTP用户
5。无限的Domain和Sub Domain
6。不少实用程序的一键安装，包括Wordpress, phpBB, MediaWiki, Joomla, WebCalendar等等

目前看来Dreamhost是国内用户申请一个独立虚拟主机最划算的计划了，本来一切都很完美，但是我的这次申请却碰到了一些麻烦。用VISA卡在网上付费以后，信箱里面也收到了招行的邮件提示，说$22.4已经冻结。这样正常的情况只需要Dreamhost来charge这笔钱，然后给我开通服务就可以了。 但是两天过去了，我的帐号仍然显示是pending approval状态，于是这场打仗开始了。

第一回合发了一封邮件到Dreamhost的支持信箱询问为什么还未开通服务，第二天回信到了。 Unfortunately, your account was denied due to supsected fraud. 昏倒，居然说涉嫌欺诈？简直是五雷轰顶啊。再次登录Dreamhost管理界面发现帐号已经被disable掉了。

第二回合我质问说咋的了这是，我付了money，你们丫说我欺骗？ What? what’s this meaning? I have payed USD 22.40 for 1 year service, and you said it’s fraud? Dreamhost回信，说你的钱已经被refund了（还好），
如果你认为这次禁用帐号是个错误的话，请把什么什么页面打印出来填好然后传真给我们。 Your Visa has been fully refunded. If you believe this disablement has been in error. Please verify your identity by faxing us back the following form: http://www.dreamhost.com/fax/ We’re sorry for any inconviences and appreciate your patience.

第三回合我说我无法传真，问他是否可以做点儿什么别的让我完成这次付款。 1. I’m in China, I can’t do international fax 2. I found my Current Balance is -$119.40 , have no any DreamHost Rewards, it should be $22.40 for my 1 year payment due to I have $97 promo code. 3. Can you enable my account and I’ll do a new payment with promo code 4. Or you can delete this WebID (kamusis), and i’ll register your service from the very beginning.
Dreamhost回信，语气强硬，说没有传真确认无法重新激活帐户，并且也不会删除那个帐户以便于我重新再创建一个。
The balance is without the promo code because we cancelled all of that when we shut the account off. Without the fax authorization, we won’t be able to re-enable your account. Your credit card will be refunded automatically (if it was charged) and we will simply leave the account closed.

第4回合我说我就想用promo code注册他们的一年服务，到底有没有什么别的方法？
OK, I will leave that WebID to you guys, but can you delete the record of “ssss.org” from your databse? When I try to register a new WebID and register this domain name freely, it said there is a record in your system already, but if I register this domain directly with $7.9, it will be OK. All I wanna do is just use a promo code to register your 1 year service and got “ssss.org” domain name freely. Can you help me???
Dreamhost回信，很不幸，如果你想重新注册一个帐户的话，那么你就必须选择另外一个域名。
I am sorry but you will also have to select a different domain if you are starting a new account.
我FT，还有这样的事情，出离愤怒了，但是实际上我无计可施，回信的同时，也在考虑是不是找美国的朋友帮忙发个确认传真。 第5回合我骂人了，并且表示我不玩了。 Holly shit! It’s unbelievable! OK, i’ll quit.
Dreamhost回信，意思是重申一遍，只有新用户才能用promo code，意思估计是就算给你激活了，你已经不是新用户，也就不能享受折扣了。 To add to what has already been said; promotion codes are for new customers only. Let us know if you have further questions though.

最后一个回合 我开始据理力争，且抒发胸臆。 I know “promotion codes are for new customers only”. It’s exactly the reason why I want to register a new user and use “ssss.org” domain. I payed for it already with my VISA as a new customer, but you guys said it’s a fraud (I don’t know why! yes, you refunded it, but so what?). Then you disabled my account, now my account isn’t a new customer anymore, then you said “you cannot use promo code”. OK, I want to register a new user and use ” ssss.org”, again you said “you can’t, you have to choose another domain name”. These are all the things I met in your site. Does this make sense? If you were me, what do you think? My question is, since “ssss.org” is free, why can’t I use it? 1. My VISA is mine, it is *NOT* a fraud! 2. I *CANNOT* fax to you because I’m living in China, out of USA! Do you know the meaning of “CANNOT”? I have no way to do a international fax. 3. I’m a new customer with a promo code from my friend which is your old customer! 4. I want “ssss.org” domain since I love this name! 5. I can pay you anytime if you want! $22.4, *NOT* $119.4

Dreamhost回信，哈哈，说他们又看了下，觉得是搞错了，一切服务立时开通，要我做的就是去完成付款。 Actually, after reviewing your account, it looks like you’re ok. I’ll re-enable your account, and your promo code.
心中暗爽的同时，故作矜持且有礼貌地给他们回信说，俺已经付款啦，谢谢你们的耐心哦。至此，这场小仗算是打完了，以老夫最终达到目的告终。

好了，上面这个故事告诉我们。

1。不要怕洋鬼子，跟他们搞，有希望赢的。
2。Dreamhost是理由消费者的懒惰心理挣钱的。
3。Dreamhost的服务太差
4。便宜没好货啊。随便玩玩可以，正经做网站就算了
